If you love to ride your bike, you're going to love May as there are a host of bike-to-work activities planned.

If you've ever thought about commuting by bike, now is a great time to start. Looking for tune-up tips? Curious about the best routes?  Maybe a buddy-ride for that shot of confidence? The Alliance for People Powered Transportation can help.

Get started now by visit www.nevcoappt.org to register for events and view interactive route maps. There are also events planned throughout the month of May:

Mocha Madness Mondays: Every Monday get discounts at local coffee shops for making your commute by alternative transportation.

Trails Tuesdays: Are you the adventurous type? Find the golden tickets on popular local trails and connectors to redeem for cool stuff. Check the web site for clues.

Walk ‘n Roll Wednesdays: Ever consider a hybrid commute? Ride your bike to the bus stop, use public transportation, then walk to work. Share your journey on our blog.

Dash ‘n Dine Thursdays: Half-priced appetizers and drinks at participating restaurants for getting there without the car.

Community Bicycle Rally – Saturday, May 29, 12-3 pm: Bring the whole family to ride and come together for music, barbecue and fun. Join us in celebrating the best Bike Month Nevada County has ever seen!

Bike Week Events - May 17-21, 2010

Car-Free Commuter Challenge: Register at www.nevcoappt.org. Track your miles for prizes and honor.

Company Challenge: Work as a team to earn incentives and bragging rights.

Passport Contest: Get your Nevada County Passport at Gold Country Copy, then visit all the local businesses on it first and win a bike! Other fun prizes, too. See web site for details.

Energy Stations: All week every day from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. We’ll be out there with that little extra bit of love to keep you rolling. Stations provide free snacks, fresh pastries from Summer Thyme’s and Flour Garden, drinks, coffee in the morning, camaraderie and a rest.

Friday, May 21: Nevada County Bike to Work Day 2010 – Celebrate together at the Briar Patch 5 to 9 p.m.
