Friar Tuck’s Restaurant & Bar of Nevada City has received a 2012 Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine.

The selection is announced in the Aug. 31 issue of Wine Spectator as part of its 31st annual international awards program. The magazine’s list includes restaurants across the U.S. and in 65 nations.

“In our entire region, there are just four restaurants listed; three in the Lake Tahoe area and us,” said Friar Tuck’s founder and owner Greg Cook. “That’s pretty cool.”

Friar Tuck’s was recognized for its extensive California wine selections and moderate pricing.

“This is a very prestigious award in the restaurant industry and a great honor for us,” said Cook, who opened Friar Tuck’s in 1973 and continues to operate the downtown restaurant with his wife, Rona. Friar Tuck’s seats 185, offers two wine cellars with more than 300 wine selections and attracts a
clientele from across the region.

“We work hard on our wine selections and we’re proud to be part of the wine community in Nevada County,” Cook said.

Friar Tuck’s is located at 111 North Pine Street in downtown Nevada City. For more information, call 530-265-9093 or visit
