GRASS VALLEY, CA- Following a successful partnering of art and wine at the The Sierra Vintners “Discover Gold" Wine Trail event at Szabo Vineyard in June, Richard said that he and Gwyn had a great time and so when Alex Szabo asked if they would be interested in showing their work at his Broad Street Tasting Room during August and September they agreed it would be fun, as well as a great opportunity to show their larger pieces.
Gwyn Stramler’s work hovers between painting and sculpture, combining abstract expressionism with literary images. Characters added very dimensionally to the picture plane invite imaginative interaction from the viewer, and may rekindle a childlike playfulness. The colorful wooden silhouettes mounted on painted landscapes evoke puppetry, paper dolls, tin toys, illustration and animation. Stramler has received the prestigious Crocker-Kingsley Biennial Award, as well as numerous American Illustration awards.
Richard Downs creates contemporary images of "Couples" embraced in archetypal relationships and a new series of Dragonfly Monotypes. Richard's art making combines contemporary aesthetics with the rich history of printmaking to create images that feel both current and timeless. Richard has worked for most United States periodicals and newspapers ranging from The Progressive to National Geographic and international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund and the United Nations publication divisions. Richard's work was selected this year to be included in the prestigious Crocker Art Museum 2012 Art Auction.
The exhibit is open for viewing Thursday - Sunday, 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm
