Kick up your heals at The Stonehouse

The Stonehouse is proud to introduce their latest weekly event, a Wednesday evening dance night of Swing, swagger and boogie nights!  Every Wednesday, The Stonehouse will be offering dance lessons followed by an evening of swing music brought to you by LOP (Lake of the Pines) Slider’s Social Dance Club. Starting Wednesday, August 8th, the evening will begin at 7:00 pm and will end when the last dancer drops! Bring your dance shoes and boogie on down to music ranging from Blues, Jazz and even Country. Learn the basics of West Coast, East Coast Swing along with the American Style Cha-cha.

The LOP Sliders started in 2008 – recently offering classes and dance nights at the Mt. Vernon Grange Hall in Auburn – and now expanding to The Stonehouse. Founder Barry Connick boasts an impressive 40 year dance career, with emphasis on Latin and American Rhythm dance styles. “Dancing is an individual expression of movement,” which is why he has two separate dancing partners,  “to demonstrate… [the difference in] unique dancing styles.” Barry’s partners include Paula Orlando and Cheryl Taylor. Paula’s experience includes tap, ballet, Pointe, and jazz as well as folk dance and even a little contra dancing. She is currently studying the sizzling Argentine Tango, and modestly admits, “I don’t quite have the sizzle down yet!”  Cheryl has 25 years of floor time, starting out to Country music and eventually expanding to West Coast Swing, Ballroom and Argentine Tango.  Though “West Coast Swing is where my heart is,” Cheryl has a more contemporary styling and prefers “funk” West Coast music. Paula and Cheryl will be sharing the spotlight on alternating months.

Starting August 8, Barry and Paula will begin the weekly Wednesday lessons by demonstrating and teaching the American style Cha-cha. During the first ½ hour – starting at 7:00 pm – the basic Cha-cha will be taught, followed by an additional ½ hour of intermediate Cha-cha and concluding with a dance party playing a wide variety of swinging music.  There will be a $5 cover at the door. Come early and enjoy Happy Hour, from 5-8 pm. The Stonehouse is located at 107 Sacramento Street in downtown Nevada City.
