LabelGMOs.org and BriarPatch Co-op Community Market will present a pair of lectures regarding genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, in food during a day of information sharing that starts at noon Saturday, July 28, at St. Joseph’s Cultural Center, 410 S. Church St., Grass Valley.

Jeffrey Smith and John Robbins will explore GMOs in food and the upcoming ballot initiative requiring labeling of foods with genetically modified food ingredients.

The lectures – “What You Should Know: The Truth About GMOs in Food” and “Get Ready for November’s vote on the California Right to Know Initiative” – are from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and will include a question-and-answer-session. Following the lectures is a screening of “Genetic Roulette: Gambling with our Lives,” in which Smith interviews scientists, farmers and global experts.

Smith, author of the bestselling books “Seeds of Deception” and “Genetic Roulette,” is the leading spokesperson on the health concerns regarding GMOs and founder of the Institute for Responsible Technology.

Robbins is an author of nine bestsellers, including “The Food Revolution,” “Diet for a New America,” and “No Happy Cows: Dispatches from the Frontlines of the Food Revolution.”

The event will open with music by Paul Kamm, Eleanore MacDonald, Kalyani, Bob Polucha, David Stirling, and Barclay Neumann.
