Nevada City finalist in ‘Best Town’ competition

Nevada City is one of 10 finalists for Outside Magazine’s “Best Town in America” contest and the chance to be on the cover of its October edition.

According to a press release, Outside Magazine’s finalists offer a balance of culture, scenery, stress-free and reasonable cost of living, and easy access to the outdoors.

For its 35th Anniversary issue, Outside is asking the public to help select the winner in its Best Town Ever Facebook app.

Outside partnered with the nonprofit American Rivers to find places that have easy access to kayaking, fishing, boating, trails, bike paths, riverfront parks and a positive environmental story.

The other towns nominated are Hood River, Ore., Missoula, Mont., Boise, Idaho, Durango, Colo., Ithaca, N.Y., Milwaukee, Richmond, Va., Nashville, Tenn., and Asheville, N.C.

The winning town will receive the official honor of Outside’s “Best Town in America” and be featured in the October 2012 magazine cover and on Outside online.

The voting began June 12 and ends July 9. To vote, visit facebook.com/outsidemagazine.
