Calling all Volunteers!! Help Nevada County Habitat do something they have never done before!

Habitat Blitz Build: Building a home in 6 days. We need volunteers – with or without construction skills.

Nevada County, CA May 14, 2012 – Nevada County Habitat is boldly going where they have never gone before! Through generous donations by local and national businesses and endorsed by The National Association of Home Builders, Nevada County Habitat for Humanity will be building a home for a hard working local family in a six day Blitz Build starting on June 4 and continuing through June 9. Volunteer builders alongside general building and engineering contractor Chip Gauthier will be working on home #5 of the 16-home Grass Valley Heritage Oaks development. We need many more volunteers for a number of jobs that range from construction work to parking attendant help.

The Blitz Build home in Nevada County is a state-of-the-art home with the latest sustainable building technologies that have been used together to achieve net-zero energy efficiency. This home is a national model for building green and affordable. It will be sound proof, fire resistant, tornado and earthquake safe, Energy Star certified, and a healthy home. The home will be 2 story, 4 bedroom, 2 full baths, and 1214 square feet built with 6” BuildBlock Insulating Concrete Forms (ICF’s).

Live video streaming of the building project will be on the web and a viewing area will be set up for the community to come and watch this home go up and witness the latest in energy efficient, sustainable, and affordable construction technologies. Volunteers will be fed lunch, have fun, and help Habitat make history.

With such a short timeframe to build this home, many more volunteers are needed for all types of construction projects. Please contact Habitat for Humanity Nevada County if you are able to volunteer and would like to help. Contact info@nchabitat.org or sign up online at http://blitz-build.com/how-to-volunteer/

About Nevada County Habitat for Humanity

Nevada County Habitat for Humanity (NCHFH) was organized in mid 1995 by various community, government and church members to address the growing and recognized need for affordable housing in Nevada County. In the past years, NCHFH has grown from a handful of concerned citizens to a grass roots organization with a 12 member governing Board of Directors, a roster of 25 Standing Committee Members, over 60 committed volunteers and 500 loyal financial donors, all committed to achieving our mission of providing simple and decent affordable homes for hard-working local families. To date NCHFH has completed 22 homes across Nevada County providing affordable homeownership for 31 adults and 66 children of qualified families. NCHFH broke ground in the Fall of 2010 on a 16-home “Heritage Oaks” development their most ambitious project to date, and have completed 4 homes of the 16.
