United Methodist Church celebrating Fat Tuesday
The Nevada City United Methodist Church presents a Fat Tuesday Celebration at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the sanctuary at 433 Broad St.
Fat Tuesday is the evening before the beginning of the Christian season of Lent. Because Lent is a time of introspection and fasting, Fat Tuesday is a day of celebration and feasting. One of the Fat Tuesday traditions is called a “Hymnal,” in which the people gather for a celebration of music, while singing and hearing the “good old hymns” of the faith played in Dixieland Jazz Style.
The program will include liturgy, readings from the Bible and a message from Pastor Charles Smith. Interspersed with the liturgy, musicians and Dixieland Jazz music will be featured in a concert-like setting. Among the musicians are Bob Ringwald, who has formed and led several bands, including the Great Pacific Jazz Band in Los Angeles. A sing-along of the old hymns will be an added feature.
The event is free and the public is invited. For more information, call 530-470-8453.
