New York’s Ohlsson featured performer at InConcert show
InConcert Sierra presents acclaimed pianist Garrick Ohlsson in an all-Liszt program in honor of the 200th anniversary of Franz Liszt’s birth at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, at Seventh-day Adventist Church, 12889 Osborne Hill Rd. in Grass Valley.
Since his triumph as winner of the 1970 Chopin International Piano Competition, pianist Ohlsson — described as the most versatile of America’s important pianists by the Boston Globe — has established himself worldwide as a musician of wide interpretive and technical prowess, according to Julie Hardin, executive director of InConcert Sierra.
Born and raised in Bronxville, N.Y., Ohlsson took up the piano at the age of eight. Seeing the legendary Arthur Rubenstein perform at Carnegie Hall as a 9-year-old was the catalyst for his career on the concert stage. He entered the Juilliard School of Music in New York City at age 13 and has had a career on the move ever since.
The performance will be preceded by a pre-concert forum with Dr. Aileen James at 1:15 p.m. For more information, call 530-273-3990 or visit www.inconcertsierra.org
