January 28th Women’s Writing Salon - Celebrating the Voices of Local Authors

image

Grass Valley, CA—Everyone in the community is invited to hear the voices of five local women authors at the upcoming Winter Women’s Writing Salon. Writers of poetry, short stories, and memoir each read for ten minutes, just enough to leave the audience wanting more.  Men are enthusiastically welcome as audience members.

Readers for the upcoming Salon promise to bring a range of topics and tones from dark and erotic to light and humorous. During this Salon we’ll hear the voices of:

·         Ronnie Paul, who as she enters her Medicare years, is thankful she can still remember enough of her history to write memoirs;

·         Kim Culbertson, author of Songs for a Teenage Nomad and Instructions for a Broken Heart . Her poems and short fiction have also been published;

·         Liz Collins, who would like to report that she has been published in the New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, and Best American Short Stories, as well as being a recent recipient of the O’Henry Awards, but unfortunately this is not the case;

·         Kirsten Casey is a local California Poet in the Schools who delights in turning 11 year old boys into poetry fans through zombie haiku;

·         For most of the last three decades an ongoing meditation on the feminine face of God has dominated Yakshi Vadeboncoeur’s poetic expression.

Gather at 3:30 p.m. for food, drink and conversation with other word lovers. Reading begins 4 p.m. at Sierra Mountain Coffee Roasters/Tomes Books at 671 Maltman Dr. in Grass Valley. There is no charge for this event.

The Women’s Writing Salon was founded in 2005 by poet Gail Entrekin and Union contributor Ronnie Paul. In 2007 the Salon was inherited by local authors, Betsy Graziani Fasbinder and Patricia Dove Miller. According to Fasbinder, “The Foothills are so chocked full of unheard talent. The Salon gets writers to try out their works in front of eager listeners, and the audience gets to enjoy a delicious tasting platter of stories, poetry and song.”

The Women’s Writing Salon is generally held three to four times a year. For more information about the Salon or to learn about participating in future Salons, please contact Betsy Fasbinder at bgf2u@sbcglobal.net.
