Dogs Run Free, an off-leash dog park in Grass Valley’s Condon Park, celebrated its grand opening on Nov. 19. Grass Valley City Councilor Lisa Swarthout presided over a “leash-cutting” at the Saturday ceremony.

“After several years of hard work, many volunteer work days, and with the support of the Grass Valley City Council, our dream is becoming a reality,” said Andie Reed, president of non-profit Dogs Run Free. “It will be an asset to the community; the more people use our parks, the safer and friendlier they are.”

The 1.7-acre park has fencing, ADA walkways, benches, parking, water, double-entry gates and a fenced area for small dogs. Hours are sunrise to sunset at the park, which is located just below the skate park.

The initial funding for the park came from grant from the Salter Fund of the Nevada County Land Trust. Since no public funds are being used for the park, it relies on volunteers and fundraising efforts to maintain it. Anyone interested in volunteering or becoming sponsor should call 530-273-9268 for more information.
