Nevada City's Doris Foley Historical Library to be open two days a week

image The Doris Foley Historical Research Library will be open two days a week starting this Friday.

The future of the library was in doubt earlier this year as the Nevada County Board of Supervisors considered a proposal to privatize the county’s library system, which was facing a $400,000 budget shortfall.

The Doris Foley Library for Historical Research in Nevada City will be open for two days a week beginning Friday, May 14.

The future of the library was in doubt earlier this year as the Nevada County Board of Supervisors considered a proposal to privatize the county’s library system, which was facing a $400,000 budget shortfall.

The board voted to reject an out-of-state firm’s proposal to manage the system but accepted a bid by the Friends of the Nevada County Libraries to run the Doris Foley Library, which is at 211 N. Pine St.

On Tuesday, supervisors approved spending $2,500 for maintenance and microfilming costs for the library, which is near the Nevada County courthouse.

The Nevada County Library system has branches in Grass Valley, Nevada City, Penn Valley, Lake of the Pines and Truckee as well as the historical research library in downtown Nevada City.

The library system has reduced hours at the other branches as a way to balance its budget.
