Sierra Commons, the new entrepreneurial workspace in Nevada City's Stonehouse Building, is inviting the public to try out its workspace as part of its open house that goes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20.

The open house includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon at 107 Sacramento Avenue. The event is being hosted by the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce, the city of Nevada City, Nevada County, and the Private Industry Council of Butte County.

Sierra Commons founder Robert Trent manages the non-profit that provides a co-working environment and serves as a business incubator.

“Our goal is to provide a modern facility for entrepreneurs and a networking platform for local businesses to be successful,” said Trent, a longtime communications and technology consultant and founder of Velocity7. “Sierra Commons will help create new jobs and grow the local economy by acting as a communal hub for businesses, networking, and innovation.”

Sierra Commons houses 10 member-businesses and a growing group of entrepreneurs who are integrating The Commons as part of their business infrastructure.  The facility has quickly become a hub for business development, technology, product development, and a leader in developing renewable energy projects both locally and nationally.

To celebrate, Sierra Commons is offering a Free Day at Sierra Commons from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday.  The Free Day is open to anyone and everyone and will allow visitors free use of the facilities at Sierra Commons for the day and act as a demonstration of the benefits of a co-working office.

There will also be a chance to enter a drawing for a free month membership. Visitors are encouraged to bring their laptops, a coffee mug, and motivation to have a productive working day.
