“I see being an herbalist as a political path, meaning a way to encourage community, and change some of the status quo, especially the ways medicine is currently practiced.  I feel that being herbalists we can be a great boon to our communities, whether just among our friends, the towns we live in, or wherever we are and whomever we are talking to.” ~ 7Song, Director of the Northeast School of Botanical Medicine.

HAALo is pleased to bring 7Song to Nevada City, CA, all the way from Ithica, New York! 7song will be teaching for 3 days in Nevada County and sharing his vast education and experiences with our local aspiring herbalists as well as an advanced class for practicing herbalists.

On September 30 and October 1, he will teach a weekend class of herbal exploration, whimsical zombie apocalypse scenarios, and street medicine. Monday, October 2, he will present an extra day of advanced herbalism training for community herbalists. With his vast experience of street medicine first-aid, materia medica (Plants as Medicine), botany, body systems, and clinical herbalism, he brings forward a fresh, down-to-earth, yet scientific study of plant medicine.

7Song has taught at many schools and conferences throughout the United States, which has given him the opportunity to see the varied ways that herbal knowledge is passed on. He began his herbal path with Rosemary Gladstar in 1983 and later at the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine. He attended many herbal conferences gaining a vibrant education along the way. Some of the places he has taught include Costa Rica, White Lake, Michigan, Atlanta, Georgia and Shrewsbury, Uk. He is currently the Director of the Northeast School of Botanical Medicine, involved as creator, teacher and contributor for the past 13 years.

One of 7Song’s strengths as an herbalist is as a street medic. He is an herbal practitioner and Director of the Holistic Medicine/Ithica Free Clinic; “It is deeply satisfying to be a part of this clinic. Working here has allowed me to be a part of something I wholeheartedly believe in, free medicine.”

7Song has been involved in herbal first aid for many years. He has worked as a street medic and herbalist in a variety of clinics and first aid stations. He has helped run the first aid station at the Rainbow Gathering for over 20 years, which is an off-the-grid first aid station that sees up to 150 people a day with a wide range of health conditions.

One of his goals in teaching is showing how herbal medicine offers useful primary and adjunct treatments in first aid situations, especially working alongside a diversity of health care practitioners. He also endeavors to make herbal medicine accessible and affordable and to reach people who may know little about it.

You can meet 7Song in person at any of the 3 days of classes he will be teaching in Nevada City, on September 31, October 1, or October 2. You can attend only one of the weekend classes or the entire weekend. Monday will feature the advanced class for practicing herbalists. Each class day is from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and tickets and class information are available at www.haalo.org, Eventbrite, or call HAALo and you can register over the phone or in person.
