BriarPatch to host discussion on raising chickens in your backyard
Shan Kendall's discussion and slide show will focus on how to raise chickens without relying processed chicken food. Kendall will talk about sprouting organic seeds and grains, growing pastures for greens, kefir and whey as well as information on housing, predator protection and how to get started.
Local cooking teacher Shan Kendall will present “Chickens in My Backyard,” at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, at the BriarPatch's Community Room.
Kendall's discussion and slide show will focus on how to raise chickens without relying processed chicken food. She will talk about sprouting organic seeds and grains, growing pastures for greens, kefir and whey as well as information on housing, predator protection and how to get started.
The event is sponsored by the Eat Local, America! Challenge and the Gold Country Chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation. This is a free event to learn how to take the “poultry plunge.”
