Experts put food-preservation techniques on the table

Three food experts will discuss and demonstrate preservation techniques on Wednesday, Aug. 5, in a presentation sponsored by the Alliance for a Post-Petroleum Local Economy and the Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains.

Shan Kendall, a local cooking teacher, will explain how traditional methods of food preservation can improve your health; Stephanie Rosa, a master preserver from U.C. Davis Cooperative Extension, will discuss food-canning techniques; and April Reese of A to Z Garden in Grass Valley will demonstrate how to make fruit jams.

“Preserving your food and your health: Why certain food preservation techniques promote good health and how to promote food safely” starts at 7 p.m. on Aug. 5 at 246 S. Church Street in Grass Valley. A donation of $3 to $5 is suggested.
