Film documents Alasdair Fraser’s musical journey
A film featuring local and international performer Alasdair Fraser will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 15, and at 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, at the Nevada Theatre in downtown Nevada City.

The Nevada Theatre Film Series is presenting “The Groove Is Not Trivial,” a documentary by Tommie Smith about the journey of a master Scottish-born fiddler who for years has delighted area audiences while holding local music camps for youth.

Fraser will attend the Thursday evening show and Smith and producer Kate Fritz will be at the Father’s Day show on Sunday.

The documentary follows Fraser’s search for self-expression, a quest that led him to dig deep into his Scottish musical roots where he finds a universal pulse – a groove – that runs through his performances with cellist Natalie Haas and the freewheeling fiddle camps he holds in California, Scotland and Spain.

Tickets are $8 and can be purchased in advance at sierratheaters.com.
