Nevada City Advocate - A free news & entertainment Newspaper Serving Nevada City & Greater Nevada County: CATS to hold auditions for ‘The King and I’ CATS to hold auditions for ‘The King and I’ ================================================================================ Staff on Jul 16 12:28pm The Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra (CATS) will hold auditions for its 2011 production, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s’ beloved musical, The King and I. It will be directed by Leslie Ann Rivers, with musical direction by Ken Hardin. The Rodgers and Hammerstein’s production will be staged from March 17 to April 16, 2011, at the Nevada Theatre in Nevada City. Auditions will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 28 and Aug. 29, at St. Joseph’s Cultural Center in Grass Valley. Callbacks will be scheduled shortly thereafter, and dates, times, and venue will be advised. Rehearsals commence in December. The King and I requires a large cast of actors, singers, dancers and children. Celebrity chef Martin Yan of Yan Can Cook, who held a cooking demonstration and signed books last summer at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley, will lead a Chinatown tour on Sunday, Sept. 12, for local residents. A highlight will be a hands-on cooking class on dim sum (Chinese dumplings and hors devours), which will be served after a Chinese Tea Ceremony at the end of the day.
