Nevada City Advocate - A free news & entertainment Newspaper Serving Nevada City & Greater Nevada County: Think Globally Rock Locally Think Globally Rock Locally ================================================================================ Submitted article on Jul 30 10:18am We are all blessed to live in these magical hills and mountains of Nevada County with it's abundance of musical and artistic talent and natural beauty. And on Friday August 7 we'll have a chance to celebrate and support some of that talent. Two fine local bands will be sharing the stage at The Miners Foundry Cultural Center at 235 Spring St., Nevada City, Ca. as part of the Foundry Fridays Concert Series. This show is going to cover a bit of musical ground from the improv-gypsy-grass of Alisha & The South Yuba String Band to the Rocking Bluesy Jazz Fusion of The Perry Mills Project. The Perry Mills Project (formerly Objects in the Mirror) will be coming back to The Miners Foundry to headline the show. Perry's Band has recently opened for The Robben Ford Trio and for local Musician, Saul Rayo. Their original blend of rock, blues and jazz fusion is powerful and inspiring and one of the many musical treasures of our creative community. Guitarist Perry Mills has found his calling in bringing inspiration and emotion to people through his music. The right music with the right message at the right time can be transforming. Says Mills, "We've been very conscious of breathing more humanity into our music with this project... touch hearts...unlock some emotional response... We want the audience to leave the show feeling better, inspired and energized." Mills and drummer Mark McCartney founded Objects in the Mirror in 2002. With keyboardist Bob Villwock, that band has since become the Perry Mills Project. Like its predecessor, the band's all-original music cuts a path that visits jazz fusion and progressive blues rock. The new sound emphasizes groove and movement, and vocals with a positive message. Band Members are: Perry Mills - guitar, Mark McCartney - drums, Mike Kelly - bass, Grant Reeves - sax, horn arrangements Opening the evening will be Alisha & The South Yuba String Band with their danceable blend of gypsy folkgrass and improvisation.
