Nevada City Advocate - A free news & entertainment Newspaper Serving Nevada City & Greater Nevada County: 'Mission: Possible' show covers economic survival strategies 'Mission: Possible' show covers economic survival strategies ================================================================================ Submitted Article on Jul 25 10:00am By Cheryl Noble After a month-long break, “Mission: Possible, Surviving 2009 Together” resumes its programming at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, on NCTV. The weekly half-hour live show debuted early this year as an outreach effort to help residents get through the recession. Guests are from local businesses, government agencies, non-profits and organizations provide information on low-cost and no-cost resources. The show also looks into the benefits of being locally minded and developing a more sustainable community. Executive producer Gil Dominguez of TouchDown Productions said he and his wife, Lyn, decided to digress from their normal sports programming to do one that would help the community. “When faced with a difficult situation, it takes a lot of time to research what’s out there,” he said. “We’re fortunate to have an array of valuable services available to us and wanted the show to cut some of the corners in finding them. We are blessed to live in a community where we want to take care of one another.” Past shows have featured segments on affordable health care, children’s services and free child care, financial and home loan advice, mental health counseling, gardening, career and business coaching, and free community clothes and book swaps. In August, the show features guests who will discuss elderly legal services, FREED Center for Independent Living, Habitat for Humanity, teen support and counseling, APPLE’s new Sustainability Center, Nevada County’s National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and the local Slow Food coalition. On Aug.10, the show will feature the upcoming Nevada County Fair and discounts being offered there. “Mission: Possible” also has weekly giveaways that are donated by local merchants. Viewers can call in and win flowers, an oil/lube service and personal workouts. “Mission: Possible” is broadcasted live on Comcast channel 11 and Suddenlink channel 16 from 6 to 6:30 on Mondays. It is rebroadcast at 2 p.m. on Fridays. The program is also streamed live at www.nevadacountr.org. Click on “Watch NCTV Now” at the top to get there.
