Celia Slattery's performance is part of a full week of live music at the saloon in downtown Nevada City. The line up includes .....

Celia Slattery, a Boston-based jazz musician, will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, at the Chief Crazy Horse Saloon in downtown Nevada City.

The free show is part of a West Coast tour by Slattery, who will also be performing in San Francisco, Berkeley and Carson City.

On Thursday, March 18, she will perform at the Copper Top Lounge in Grass Valley. Tickets are $5 for that show.

Slattery will sing songs from her latest CD, “Cast of Characters,’ while on tour. According to a press release, the singer is inspired by Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Richard Thompson and has a style that includes elements of jazz, pop and folk/rock.

Slattery will be accompanied by Jane Potter, who has performed on both coasts and in Southeast Asia as a soloist and with her jazz ensembles. She has performed live on National Public Radio.

The Chief Crazy Horse Saloon is located at 230 Commercial Street. The Copper Top Lounge is at 133 Neal Street. For more information about Slattery, visit www.celiaslattery.com.

www.myspace.com/jeepsterarmy

Past Due is back (right on schedule, ironically) with their smooth sounds of bluegrass, swing, and old-fashioned rock. The night set is headlined by local Americana favorites Jeepster, with a special welcome to the very talented Blue-Eyed Souls.   All original stuff here.

Saturday, March 13th

5:00 Urban Coyotes

9:00 Grease, Grit, and Grime, $5, www.myspace.com/greasegritandgrime

The Coyotes are a local rock band coming into the Horse for the first time. Full band on a Saturday afternoon. Grease, Grit, and Grime are back with their full regular band and the dirtiest blues this side of the dumpster.

 Sunday, March 14th

5:00 Blues Jam with Oliver

Still jamming... these have been getting better and better.

  Monday, March 15th

5:30 Trivia Night

8:00 Ninja Nation and the Dub Knights, www.myspace.com/ninjanationhq

It'll be Tom hosting trivia this week... he and Sarah are alternating. We'll be doing happy hour until 7:00 every Monday, and food is still a dollar off all night. The DJ's descend around 8:00 and play until 1:00. I'll tell you this... the people who have come in off the street without knowing what to expect from the scene have been really impressed. I'm not talking people who are necessarily into electronica... it's a fun scene. Often my favorite shift of the week.

Tuesday, March 16th

6:00 Celia Slattery, www.celiaslattery.com/

9:00 Paul Lee and the Tall Cans

Celia's wonderful. She's coming in from the East and you might never get another chance with her, so check out the link and see what you think. And the Tall Cans are back! And now we actually stock tall cans to serve them. Bluegrass guys. Bit of overlap between their band and Alisha and the South Yuba String Band, if you know one and not the other. Good scene, good music, good guys, and a late Tuesday for the Horse.

Wednesday, March 17th

8:00 Open Mic hosted by Josh Ford and KYRR radio

So... this is a chance to get a CD of your performance for free, and radio airplay, also free. 15 minutes of fame. Every Wednesday.

That's it for me... hope you're all sitting on a rock watching a cloud somewhere.
