Award-winning artists to perform at Hawaiian concert

Darlene Ahuna is a multiple Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner and a “Female Vocalist of the Year,” which is the Hawaiian music industry’s highest honor. She is best known for her seamless falsetto renditions of traditional Hawaiian, hula and hapa-haole standards.

Darlene Ahuna and Daniel Ho will perform at 7 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the 5th Annual Holiday Concert “Me Ke Aloha...With Love.” The show, which is being presented by Ka Hale Hula o Pilialohaokalani o Hilo, will be held at the Veterans Memorial Building at 255 S. Auburn Street in Grass Valley.

 The doors open at 6 p.m. when Hawaiian crafts and gifts will be for sale. The evening will also include hula dancing and refreshments.

 Ho is a four-time Grammy winner and the owner of Daniel Ho Creations, a record company.

 Ka Hale Hula o Pilialohaokalani o Hilo is a hula halau (school) led by Kumu Hula Pilialohaokalani o Hilo that was started seven years ago in Grass Valley.

 The halau is dedicated to the preservation of Hawaiian culture and to spreading the aloha spirit. Members perform regularly at assisted-living centers as well as at private parties.

Tickets are available at BriarPatch Co-op in Grass Valley, Yabobo in Nevada City or by calling 530-478-1407. They are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Children under five get in for free.
