Nevada City Film Festival breaks attendance records, organizers say
"This year's festival broke every record we've ever set for ourselves: attendance, number of films screened, and out-of-town visitors." - Jason Graham, film festival director.
The 9th annual Nevada City Film Festival broke attendance records during this year’s four-day show in August, according to event organizers. More than 1,600 film fans attended, which is about 400 more than last year.
Jason Graham, the film festival director, said it was a record-setting festival.
“This year's festival broke every record we've ever set for ourselves: attendance, number of films screened, and out-of-town visitors,” he said. “We could not have asked for anything to be more successful than it was and that includes the tremendous coming together and support from our community."
The festival ran from Aug. 20-23 with a grand opening gala at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley and dozens of short films shown at Miners Foundry in Nevada City.
This year’s winners are:
Fact Checker’s Unit by director Dan Beers for Best Comedy
Aquarium by director Rob Meyer for Best Drama
Everything will be OK (Chapter 2) by director Don Hertzfeldt wins Heart of Gold Award
Goldfish by director Joe Wein wins the Audience Award
Onur Olmez’s film Walking in the Past won the My Nevada City video contest that was sponsored by Citizens Bank. Camen Hodges and Carli Winquest were the runner-ups with the film The Key to Nevada City.
