Harris, Strawser have no opposition in Nevada City Council race
Sally Harris announced at a campaign kick-off event on Wednesday evening that Lee Griep did not file the necessary paperwork to get his name on the June 8 ballot. Griep has not yet returned a call inquiring about his change of heart.
Unless someone mounts a major write-in campaign, Sally Harris will start her third term and Duane Strawser his first term on the Nevada City Council.
Nevada City Election Clerk Kory Shaver confirmed this morning that Lee Griep did not turn in his papers declaring his candidacy by 5 p.m. on Wednesday. The Nevada City Realtor had told the Nevada City Advocate that he intended to run for one of two open spots on the City Council.
Harris was the only incumbent seeking re-election. Barbara Coffman decided to not seek a second-term on the City Council.
Shaver said even though there are only two candidates for two open seats, there still will be a City Council election and write-in candidates are allowed.

Harris was first elected to the City Council in 2004. She was elected in 2006 to finish the remaining two years of Sheila Stein’s term. Strawser is the owner of the Tour of Nevada City Bicycle Shop, a former chamber board president, director of the annual Nevada City Bicycle Classic and the local organizer of the 2010 Amgen Tour of California bicycle race that starts on May 16 in Nevada City.
