On our editorial pages, editor and publisher Pat Butler asks about the priorities of Rep. Tom McClintock, who in his first year in office seems more focused on San Joaquin Valley water issues and nuclear power than the concerns of the Fourth District. Ray Darby, meanwhile, responds to McClintock's opposition to the Solar Power Technology Roadmap Act, which received bipartisan support in the U.S. House.

The January edition of the Nevada City Advocate will be available today in a number of locations in Nevada City, Grass Valley and the San Juan Ridge.

This month's free newspaper will feature the most comprehensive coverage to date of the 8th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival, which runs from Jan. 15 to Jan. 17 in seven venues in Nevada City. The coverage includes a cover story, an interview with Film Festival Director Kathy Dotson and 21 film reviews done by Head Juror Chuck Jaffee.

The January edition will also include the first story on the upcoming production 'Cyrano,' which will feature the work of 21 local actors when it debuts in February at the Nevada Theatre in downtown Nevada City. The Advocate is also the first publication to report that the privately funded Nevada County Conference and Visitors Bureau will soon open an office in downtown Grass Valley.
