7-Hills businesses to hold Holiday Open House on Saturday

For the second consecutive year, a number of 7-Hills businesses are banding together and throwing a Holiday Open House.

This year’s event goes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, said Ellen Gammelgard, who owns the spacious Meadow Farm Yarn Shop at the corner of Argall Way and Searls Avenue.

You literally can come back here and get everything you need, and we all have our own parking lots,” said Gammelgard, who has been at 103 Argall Way for six years now.

SPD Markets is the anchor for the 7-Hills Business District, which primarily stretches from Zion Street to Searls Avenue with Argall Way being the street that ties the area together.

In just a matter of a few blocks there’s a pharmacy, furniture stores, florists, salons, a laundromat, restaurants, a pizza place, an auto repair shop, a video store, a framing shop, a movie theater, a hearing aid center, a flooring business, health club and specialty shops.

“We feel we’re a one-stop shopping center back here,” Gammelgard said.

The Holiday Open House is scheduled rain, snow or shine, she said. Craft vendors, weavers and product demonstrations are on tap. In addition, shoppers who stop each participating business and get a card stamped will have the chance to win a gift basket that will be worth at least $150.

“It’s just an opportunity to show our appreciation to our customers,” Gammelgard said of the event.
