Nevada City Farmers Market to hold a party on Saturday
The Harvest Hoe-Down will take place in the Alpha Building on Broad Street. Plans call for 60 gallons of soup, fresh bread, live music, a $100 gift certificate winner and the chance to win a weekend of lodging at Lake Tahoe.
In the spirit of community gathering, Nevada City Farmers Market organizers have planned an end-of-the-season party that starts at 5 p.m. this Saturday, Oct 24.
The Harvest Hoe-Down will take place in the Alpha Building (former Broad Street Furnishings building) on Broad Street.
NCFMA member-farmers are planning to cook 60 gallons of meat and vegetarian soups that will be served with fresh bread being donated by Fulcrum Farm, Flour Garden Bakery and SummerThymes Deli.
Organizers ask that everyone brings their own bowl and spoon as this will be a zero-waste event. If you do forget, rentals will be available for $1. Local favorite Ragged But Right will play music to go with contra dancing after dinner. Tickets are $7 at the door and beer and wine will be for sale as well as fresh ginger ale and lemonade.
The most exciting moment of the evening for someone will be winning the top raffle prize, a weekend at a Lake Tahoe cabin that is being donated by FoodWineArt Magazine. Five other prizes will be awarded, including a large basket of winter produce and a $100 gift certificate to Peaceful Valley Farm and Garden Supply.
If you would like to help us set up for this Saturday’s event, be there between 3:30 and 4 p.m.
Also, remember there are only two farmers markets left this season. They will go from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday and next Saturday when we plan to hold a little costume party for Halloween. Get your pumpkins and stock up on winter storage veggies like squash, onions, apples, garlic, etc.
