Sustainable Living Center to hold grand opening on Sept. 20
The grand opening is scheduled to go from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a ribbon-cutting, vision flag-making, a schedule of workshops, tours of the center, and the exhibit “What is sustainability?” on display.
The APPLE Center for Sustainable Living will have its grand opening on Sunday, Sept. 20, at its newly refurbished home in downtown Nevada City.
The Center sprang from a $40,000 grant from the Butte County Private Industry Council, which is also paying the rent for the next two years at the city-owned building at 413 Commercial Street.
Executive Director Mali Dyck said work on the 800-square-foot building is nearly complete. Volunteers have insulated the building and built new walls. The Center also has started holding workshops, including a drywall workshop that attracted several students.
The grand opening is scheduled to go from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a ribbon-cutting, vision flag-making, a schedule of workshops, tours of the center, and the exhibit “What is sustainability?” on display.
Organizers also plan to bury a time capsule that will be opened in 2035.
The Center is also showing two films at the Nevada Theatre on Broad Street as part of its grand-opening festivities. “Fresh” will be shown at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, and “In Transition” will be shown at the same time on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Tickets are $10.
