Historic downtown Nevada City rolls out the flags and bunting Sept. 12-13 for the 43rd Annual Constitution Day Parade & Celebration.
Nevada City's Constitution Day Parade has been a local tradition since 1967 and is reported to be the oldest and largest Constitution observance in western America.
The parade begins at 2 p.m. Sunday and features more than 100 entries including the ever-popular Ophir Prison Marching Band and the humorous but reverent Famous Marching Presidents of Nevada City.
Other weekend activities include Civil War battle re-enactments in Pioneer Park (Saturday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m.), and the Gold Country Duck Race on Deer Creek at 11 a.m. Saturday.  A free open-air concert by the Nevada County Concert Band is featured in the downtown historic district from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Saturday evening.
