Steve Cottrell’s book is set in Nevada City.

Although better known as a newspaper editor and nonfiction writer –– including his monthly history column in the Nevada City Advocate –– former Nevada City mayor Steve Cottrell and now Florida resident has had his debut novel published by Champlain Avenue Books, a traditional royalty-paying publisher in Las Vegas.
“Bartoli’s Burden” is a transcendent baseball novel that begins as a lighthearted romp down memory lane but evolves into a story of deceit, racism, baseball, vigilante justice and limits of friendship.
Much of the 330-page book is set in Nevada City, although a disclaimer reminds readers that any resemblance to real people and real businesses is merely coincidental.
The book is available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
